Thomas is recorded in the 1901 English Census as living in Paddington with his mother Emma, a public health clerk born 1877 Portsmouth.

Thomas appears to have emigrated to Australia, he was on the 1916 Electoral Roll for Gascoyne Dampier WA. His address shown was Bernier Island Carnarvon, he was a hospital orderly, his wife is shown as Kate.

Thomas then moved to Malaya. A Thomas G McCheane arrived on the ss Patroclus in London 11 June 1926 from Malaya where he was a planter, with his wife Kate born 1870.
On 3rd July 1934 Thomas G McCheane and his wife Kate arrived at Liverpool from Penang Malaya on the ss Ulysses. Mrs Kate McCheane arrived London from Penang 11 June 1937 aboard ss Antenor. She was a first class passenger and gave her destination as H E Coates Esq., 20 Marles Tce, Kensington London.
