I THE REVEREND EDMUND DAVE WICKHAM of EDMUND Holmwood Vicarage near Dorking in the County of Surrey Clerk in Holy Orders do hereby revoke all Wills Codicils and other Testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and declare this to be my last Will and Testament I bequeath to my Executors hereinafter named my silver gilt vase which in or about the year one thousand eight hundred and nineteen was presented to my Father by the inhabitants of Frome and its neighbourhood the family portraits now in the Dining Room of Holmwood Vicarage (that is to say) The Portraits by Romney of Mrs Trenchard Pickard and of Mrs Sullivan when Miss Sage The portrait by Howard of Mt Palmer of Cheam Park the portrait by Biscombe Gardner of myself The portrait of my father which is a copy made by Lewis from the original by Paton now in my brother Frank's possession and the portrait by Ripingall of myself when a child and I declare that the said Vase and all such portraits are to be held and retained in trust for my son Reginald Whalley Wickham but are not at any time during his life to be removed from England and until he shall come to reside in England my acting Executors or Executor for the time being shall make such arraigements as they or he may be able to make as to the safe custody and preservation of the said Portraits by committing the same to the care of such members or member of the family or such other persons or person as may be willing to take charge of them or any of them or by retaining them in their or his own custody or otherwise disposing of the same for safe keeping in such manner as they or he may think fit but I expressly declare that my Executors or Executor shall not be liable for the loss of or for any damage or injury done or caused to the said portraits or any of them which shall as from my death be kept at the risk of my said son and having regard to this fact I direct my acting Executors or Executor to consult in so far as may seem to them or him to be reasonably possible the wishes of my said son as to the custody care and disposition of them previously to the time when they shall be handed over to my said son or after his death to his executors or administrators
I bequeath to my son The Reverend Archdale Palmer Wickham of Rickinghall Superior in the County of Suffolk Clerk in Holy Orders
(1) the two silver gilt cups belonging to me which were presented to my father in or about the year One thousand eight hundred and nineteen at the same time as the said Vase already bequeathed
(2) The Silver Private Sacramental Service presented to me in one thousand eight hundred and fifty one on my leaving Godstone
(3) The large tinted photograph of my late daughter Anthonia Leila
(4) Such of the Divinity Books in my study as shall at the time of my death be marked in my present Library Catalogue bound in green and usually kept or to be found in the Central Division of the cedar Book Stand on my study table with a cross X or with the initials A.P.W.
I bequeath to my son in law The Reverend Dr James Franck Bright Master of University College in the University of Oxford Doctor of Divinity
(1) The four bronze vases on the dining room mantel piece and the bronze piece of the Amazon in the Hall at Holmwood Vicarage
(2) The photograph of my said late wife by Melhuish now in my study and
(3) The Marble Relief of my late dear daughter Emmeline Theresa the deceased wife of the said James Franck Bright now in the drawing room of Holmwood Vicarage
I bequeath to my two daughters Agnes Caroline and Julia Isabella Wickham all the paintings and portraits (whether paintings prints or photographs and china in the drawing room and in my dressing room at Holmwood Vicarage to be equally divided between them by their mutual agreement or in case of any difficulty arising in this respect by my acting Executors or Executor and if only one of my said two daughters shall survive me I give the whole of the same paintings portraits and china to her
I bequeath to my daughter Flora the wife of Reginald Bosworth Smith Esquire






(1) the silver candlesticks presented to me in one thousand eight hundred and fifty one on my leaving Godstone
(2) the four paintings by T Barker belonging to me and the prints hanging on the staircase walls at Holmwood Vicarage and
(3) all my fee simple estate and interest in the messuage garden land hereditaments and premises situate at Harrow in the County of Middlesex and known to me as Harrow House and I declare that the value thereof is by me estimated and for the purposes of this my Will and the division distribution and disposition of my estate shall be taken to be of the value of Four thousand pounds and shall at that value be reckoned (as hereinafter directed) as part of the share in my estate by this my Will provided for the said Flora Bosworth Smith
I bequeath to each of my Executors who shall act under this my Will One hundred pounds each (free of duty) arid to each of my present servants next hereinafter named if in my service at my death the several pecuniary legacies (all free of duty) next hereinafter mentioned (that is to say) Elizabeth Kateley Fifty pounds Mrs Mary Harris Thirty pounds Arthur Bailey Thirty pounds William Laker Thirty pounds George Stratton Thirty pounds and Andrew Booker Fifteen pounds I empower any of my children or grandchildren and my said son in law Doctor James Franck Bright to select any articles from among the plate plated articles books pictures prints furniture china linen and other articles of household or domestic use or ornament wines spirits or other liquors horses carriages or stable utensils or furniture farm stock (live or dead) or garden plants or furniture belonging to me at my death and not by this my Will or any codicil hereto specifically bequeathed which they respectively or he or she may wish to have and to request my acting executors or executor to make over the same to them respectively or to him or her accordingly at such a price fixed by valuation as to such executors or executor may seem fair and on the terms of such price being either paid to my estate by the persons or person selecting the articles articles or article in question or accounted for by them or him as part of their respective or his or her share according as such shares or share are or is settled by this my Will or taken absolutely I empower my acting executors or executor to settle and decide any question which may arise as to whether any article or thing does or does not pass under any specific bequest herein contained and their or his decision shall be absolutely conclusive and binding on all parties In exercise of the power for this purpose given or reserved to me as the survivor of myself and my said late wife Emma Wickham by the Settlement dated the twenty fifth day of May One thousand eight hundred and thirty six and made on my marriage with my said wife and in exercise of any and every other power in anywise enabling me in this behalf
I appoint that from and after my death the sum of Two thousand pounds Bank of England stock and Six thousand pounds India four pounds per cent stock now constituting or other the stocks funds securities and property at my death constituting the funds or property subject to the trusts of that settlement shall be the property of and be held in trust for such of my children the said Reginald Whalley Wickham Archdale Palmer Wickham Agnes Caroline Wickham Julia Isabella Wickham and Flora Bosworth Smith as shall survive me in equal shares and as to each of my said daughters for her sole and separate use
I devise and bequeath all the real and leasehold hereditaments and all the ready money and securities for money and all other the personal estate of or to which I shall at my death be seized possessed or entitled or over which I then have any general power of appointment or disposition by Will (except what I specifically dispose of by this my Will or any Codicil hereto unto my said son Archdale Palmer Wickham and the said James Franck Bright in fee simple and absolutely upon trust to sell all my residuary real and leasehold hereditaments and to call in and convert into money all my money and securitiesfor money and residuary personal estate And shall out of the net proceeds of my said residuary real and leasehold
hereditaments and securities for money and residuary personal estate and my money pay the four sums of Four thousand pounds each payable in pursuance of my covenant as contained in each of the settlements respectively made on the marriages of my said son Archdale Palmer Wickham and of my said daughter Flora with the said Reginald Bosworth Smith and of my daughter Alice Bertha (since deceased) with Henry John Smith Esquire and of my daughter Emmeline Theresa (since deceased) with the said James Franck Bright or such of those sums as shall at my death remain to be paid And shall hold the residue of the trust moneys property and premises in trust for my said sons Reginald Whalley Wickham and Archdale Palmer Wickham and my said daughters Agnes Caroline Wickham Julia Isabella Wickham and Flora Posworth Smith and the said James Franck Bright if all of tham shall survive me and if not then for such of them as shall survive me and for the Executors or administrators and as part of the personal estate of such of them as shall have died in my lifetime leaving issue which shall be living at my death and as to each married daughter for her separate use I declare that the shares of the said Agnes Caroline Wickham and Julia Isabella Wickham if they both or the share of that one of them who shall be spinsters or a spinster at my death shall be held by my trustees In trust to invest the same in any of the securities hereby authorised as investments and to pay the income of one of such shares or such shares (as the case may be) to the said Agnes Caroline Wickham until her marriage and the other of the said shares or the said share as the case may be) unto the said Julia Isabella Wickham until her marriage And on the marriage of each or either of my said daughters or of my said daughter I direct that a settlement of her share on herself and her issue in the form usual in such cases and which may contain a power to give by deed or will a life estate to any husband who may survive her shall be made under the direction or\\\\with the approval of my trustees And on the death of each or either of my said daughters without having been married her share shall be held in trust for such person or persons and for such purposes as she shall by Will or Codicil appoint And in default of such appointment and so far as If any such appointment shall not extend In trust for such of my said children Reginald Whalley Wickham Archdale Palmer Wickham Agnes Caroline Wickham Julia Isabella Wickham Flora Bosworth Smith and the said James Bright as shall be living at her death or the executors or administrators and as part of the personal estate of such of them as shall have died leaving issue which shall be then living and so that the share of each married daughter shall be for her separate use and so that the share accruing under this gift over to either of them the said Agnes Caroline Wickham and Julia Isabella Wickham shall be subject to the same trusts and directions and with the same powers and sublect to the same limitations over as her original share shall then be subject to I declare that such of my said children Reginald Whalley Wickham Archdale Palmer Wickham Agnes Caroline Wickham Julia Isabella Wickham and Flora Bosworth Smith who shall survive me shall bring the share of the fund and property at my death comprised in my said marriage settlement arid taken by him or her under the appointment in that behalf hereinbefore expressed to be made by me into hotchpot with my residuary trust moneys property and premises and shall account for the same accordingly as in each case part of his or her share in my residuary estate it being my intention when making provision by this my Will for my surviving children and the children (if any) of deceased children and the said James Franck Bright as standing in the place of my deceased daughter Emmeline Theresa Bright to constitute by means of the said trust fund and my own residuary estate one aggregate fund and then to divide and apportion such aggregate fund among the persons aforesaid in manner by this my Will expressed I declare that such of my said now unmarried daughters as may survive me while for the purpose of enabling a fair distribution of my property according to the scheme aforesaid to be made bringing their appointed shares of the Settlement trust funds into hotchpot with my residuary estate shall whether marred or not be entitled after the distribution of my residuary estate on that footing to hold their respective shares of the said Settlement trust funds each as and for her own absolute use and benefit and not as subject to the direction for a settlement to which her share in my residuary trust estate is hereby made subject if she shall he a spinster at my death I declare that the said sums of Four thousand pounds respectively payable under my said covenants as respectively contained in the said Settlements respectively made on the said respective marriages of the said Archdale Palmer Wickham arid Flora Bosworth Smith and Emmeline Theresa Bright shall be brought into hotchpot with the said trust fund and respectively accounted for as res pectively part of the respective shares of the said Archdale Palmer Wickham Flora Bos-worth Smith and James Franck Bright in such trust fund I declare that the sum of Four thousand pounds as representing the value of Harrow House aforesaid is by the said Florence Bosworth Smith to be brought into hotchpot with the said trust fund and accounted for as part of the share of the said Flora Bosworth Smith in such trust fund
I declare it to be my Will that the said Reginald Whalley Wickham is not to bring into account any sums which have been paid by me to or for him or which may have been advanced to him by me or be called on or required by my executors or trustees to do more than to pay any debt owing by him to me at my death for which I shall hold any mortgage promissory note or other security of his I declare that it shall be lawful for my Trustees to invest any moneys for the time being in their hands and under the trusts or powers of this my Will either requiring or proper or convenient to be invested in any of the public stocks or funds of Government securities (including bonds payable to bearer of the United Kingdom or India or any other dependency or any Colony of the United Kingdom or upon freehold leasehold or chattel real securities in England or Wales or in or upon the stocks funds shares (being fully paid up and of limited liability) debentures mortgages or securities of any Corporation company or public body beneficial commercial or otherwise in the United Kingdom or India or in any other dependency or in any Colony of the United Kingdom incorporated by special Act of Parliament or Royal Charter or the Act of the Legislature of India or of such other dependency or Colony as aforesaid but not in any other mode of investment with power from time to time to vary or transpose such stocks funds shares or securities into or for others of the same or a like nature at their discretion I declare that it shall be lawful for my trustees to defer or postpone the sale conversion and collection of the whole or any part or parts of my residuary real and leasehold hereditaments and money and securities for money and residuary personal estate so long as to my trustees shall in their uncontrolled discretion seem proper but my real estate shall for the purpose of transmission be impressed with the quality of personalty from the time of my death I empower my trustees during such interval or period of postponement to manage and to let upon lease for any period not exceeding twenty one years or from year to year or to cultivate my residuary real and leasehold hereditaments and to make out of the income or capital of my residuary real and leasehold hereditaments and money and securities for money and general residuary estate any outlay which such trustees may consider proper for payment of fines or moneys on admission to or enfranchisement of copyhold hereditaments improvements repairs insurance calls on shares premiums on policies or otherwise for the benefit or in respect of my trust estate And I declare that the net rents and profits or other income produced from every or any part of my residuary real or leasehold hereditaments moneys or securities for money or residuary Personal estate previously to the conversion or collection thereof pursuant to the trusts hereinbefore declared shall be applied in the same manner in all respects as if the same were income proceeding from such investments as are hereinbefore directed or authorized and that the whole of the income produced from my trust estate (real or personal) in its actual condition or state of investment for the time being whether consisting of property or investments of an authorized or of an unauthorised description and whether of a permanent or a wasting character shall as well during the first year from my death as at all times afterwards be applicable as income under the trusts of this my Will no part thereof being in any event liable to be retained as Corpus or Capital but no reversion or other property not actually producing income which shall form part of my estate shall under the doctrine of constructive conversion or otherwise be treated as producing income or as entitling any person to the receipt of income
I appoint the said Archdale Palmer Wickham and James Franck Bright EXECUTORS of this my Will

THIS IS A CODICIL to the Will of me The Reverend Edmund Dawe Wickham of Holmewood Vicarage near Dorking in the County of Surrey Clerk in Holy Orders which Will bears date the nineteenth April One thousand eight hundred and eighty seven Whereas I have in my said Will directed that my son Reginald Whalley Wickham is not to bring into account any sums which have been paid by me to or for him or be called on or required by my Executors or Trustees to do more than to pay any debt owing by him to me at my death for which I shall hold any mortgage promissory note or other security of his And whereas in exercise of the power for that purpose given or reserved to me as survivor of myself and my late wife Emma Wickham by the Settlement dated twenty fifth May One thousand eight hundred and thirty six I did by my said Will appoint that from and after my death the funds or property subject to the trusts of that Settlement shall be the property of and held in trust for such of my children the said Reginald Whalley Wickham Archdale Palmer Wickham Agnes Caroline Wickham and Julia Isabella Wickham and Flora Bosworth Smith as shall survive me in equal shares And whereas by an Indenture dated fifth November One thousand eight hundred and eighty nine I have absolutely appointed one fifth share of the trust funds of the said Settlement to the said Reginald Whalley Wickham And whereas I am arranging to advance to the said Reginald Whalley Wickham the sum of Two thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds which is to be secured by a mortgage of the Holmewood Estate Agra Patana Ceylon belonging to the said Reginald Whalley Wickham and of his one fifth share of the funds subject to the trusts of my Marriage Settlement so appointed to him as aforesaid in favour of William Stewart Forster and George Edgar Frere as Trustees for me Now I declare that in the event of the Two thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds being so advanced by me to the said Reginald Whalley Wickham and not repaid before my death he shall bring the said sum of Two thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds and also all interest that may be due thereon into account as part of his share under my said Will and he shall also bring into account a sum of Two thousand pounds which is due to me from him and is secured by a charge on the said Holmwood Estate and if that sum shall not be repaid before my death but my Executors shall not require the said Reginald Whalley Wickham to being into account any interest in respect of the Two thousand pounds as I have never required him to pay any I also declare direct and appoint that the said appointment by my said Will made of the funds or property comprised in my said marriage settlement shall take effect with due regard had to the provision as to hotchpot contained in the said Settlement and to the said appointment of the one fifth share of the said trust funds or property made to the said Reginald Whalley Wickham by the said Indenture of the fifth day of November One thousand eight hundred and eighty nine And that the said one fifth share of the said trust funds or property taken by my said son under the said appointment of the fifth day of November One thousand eight hundred and eighty nine shall be in satisfaction either in the whole or in part as the case may be of the share in the said trust funds or property which if it were not for that appointment he would take under my said Will And further that my said son Reginald Whalley Wickham his executors or administrators shall bring the said one fifth share of the said !rust funds or property appointed to him by the said Indenture of the fifth day of November One thousand eight hundred and eighty nine in to account with my estate in the same manner as under my Will he would have to do if such share had been taken by him under the said appointment made by my said Will it being my intention that after the said Reginald Whalley Wickham or his executors or administrators shall have repaid to my estate the said sums of Two thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds and Two thousand pounds and all other moneys (if any) which at my death may under the provisions of my Will and this Codicil and any other Codicil hereafter made thereto be, repayable by him to my estate he or his Executors or administrators if under my Will entitled to stand in his place if he shall predecease me shall be entitled to share equally in the funds or property subject to the trusts of my said marriage Settlement and my residuary estate regarded as together constituting one aggregate fund as by my said Will directed in the same manner as he or they would do if the said appointment of the fifth day of November One thousand eight hundred and eighty nine had not been made and my said son had been left to take under the appointment of the said trust funds or property and the disposition of my property made by my said Will

Whereas by my said Will I have appointed the Reverend Archdale Palmer Wickham late of and therein described as of Rickinghall Superior in the County of Suffolk but now of Martock in the County of Somerset Clerk in Holy Orders and Doctor James Franck Bright Master of University College in the University of Oxford Doctor of Divinity Executors of my said Will Now I hereby appoint my son in law Reginald Bosworth Smith of Harrow on the Hill in the County of Middlesex Gentleman to be an additional EXECUTOR of my said Will and Codicil And I declare that my said Will and Codicil shall be read and construed as if the names of the said Archdale Palmer Wickham James Franck Bright and Reginald Bosworth Smith were inserted therein instead of the said Archdale Palmer Wickham and James Franck Bright And that all the trusts and powers in and by my said Will and Codicil reposed in and made exercisable by the said Archdale Palmer Wickham and James Franck Bright shall be exercisable by the said Archdale Palmer Wickham James Franck Bright and Reginald Bosworth Smith And in all other respects I confirm my said Will and Codicil

Whereas by an Indenture dated this twenty ninth day of May One thousand eight hundred and ninety four I have demised a certain piece of land in Warwick Road Holmwood aforesaid to the Reverend Charles Hamerton Gould William Rapley and Joseph Birby for certain purposes therein specified for the term of 999 years subject to the rent and provisions therein contained And whereas I am advised that in the event of my death within twelve months from the making thereof the said lease would be void Now therefore I hereby confirm the said lease and in all other respects I confirm my existing testamentary dispositions
