My mother remarried after my father died. Frank Kirkham was a lovely grandad to both Robin's and my children, who never knew my father. My mother had two long and happy marriages and both husbands adored her.
My dad, known as Van and my mum, known as Rita met during the war. Mum was a sergeant in the ATS and they were both working in the anti aircraft units. When the military found out about their relationship, she got busted down to corporal and was moved away! She proudly told us she got her stripes back eventually. Dad went unpunished however. Different times!
