January 4, 1868 at St John's Church, Darlinghurst, by the Lord Bishop of Sydney, assisted by the Rev G H Morton, Capt William Hans Blake, RN, son of the late George Hans Blake, to Henrietta, daughter of the late Honourable Robert Fitzgerald, of Springfield, Sydney. Sydney Mail Saturday, January 11, 1868.
In the 1881 Census of England Henrietta (widow) and her three children were liveing at 1 High View Road, Croydon, Surrey. (see FHL Film 1341194 PRO Ref. RG11, Piece 0821 Folio 94 Page 12)
In the 1901 Census of England, Henrietta (widow) is shown as living at 107 Belverdere Road, Penge, (London)Co. Surrey, part of the Parish of St Paul. She was aged 54. (see Public Record Office ref: RG13/650 page 21/111)
Her death certificate shows that she died at 57 Belverdere Rd, Penge, Surrey. (1913, no. 218 Mar.1/4)
In Samuel Lewis's book Dictionary of England for 1831 - PENGE, a hamlet in that part of th Parish of BATTERSEA, which is in the eastern division of the hundred of BRIXTON, county of SURREY, three and threequarter miles N.N.E. from Croydon, containing 228 inhabitants.
Will of Henrietta Fitzgerald 19 Aug 1879 THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me HENRIETTA BLAKE now residing at no. 111 Belvedere Road Norwood in the county of Surrey I hereby revoke all former wills and testamentary dispositions made by me I give to Kilmer Augustus Arthur Brassier Creagh and William Evelyn Alston two of my executors and trustees hereinafter named the sum of nineteen pounds nineteen shillings each I give the bullet extracted from the body of my late husband to the Governing Body of Netley Hospital but I request them to give it to either of my two sons who shall apply for it I give to my son George Hans Sotheby Blake the bible presented to me by the Petty Officers seamen and mariners of Her M S Druid a pair of ear rings set with diamonds rubies and opals a small locket containing the likeness of my sister Lucy Douglas Hamilton a brooch set with rubies diamonds and an opal a bracelet set with diamonds and turquoise a coral necklace and a white alabaster clock and one small and one large carriage clock I give to my daughter Henrietta Rosa Blake an operculeum set consisting of brooch earrings necklace and bracelet The diamond ring given me by my late husband a diamond and ruby ring an opal and diamond ring cape Coast Castle jewellry consisting of a chain a bracelet and two gold brooches and an onyx cross and chain in case. I give to my son William Lascelles Fitzgerald Blake two pairs of gold earrings a bracelet set with diamonds and emeralds a coral brooch earrings in case two small African crosses a pair of gold sleeve lincks a small locket containing hair and the likeness of my late husband a watch and chain a ring set with coral and one opal a necklet with three lockets attached a small operculeum brooch with hair in the back a malachite marble dining room clock my writing desk and the bible given me by Mary Elizabeth Westacott And I direct that in case any one or more of my children should die before attaining twenty one years or in case of my daughter previously marrying his her or their legacy or legacies shall go to the survivors equally to be divided by my trustees or to the sole survivor I give to my sister Lucy Douglas Hamilton my drawing room sofa ottoman chairs and gaselier a black mourning brooch with my mothers hair in a pair of slave gold earrings a cameo locket a diamond ring given me by my father a lady's travelling jewellery bag a locket set with diamonds and an emerald I give my piano and my blue enamelled ring set with small diamonds to my sister Elizabeth Rouse Alston And if the said Lucy Douglas Hamilton shall die in my lifetime before all my children shall being sons have attained the age of twenty one years or being a daughter have attained that age or married and if the said Elizabeth Rouse Alston shall under the terms of this my will have become guardian of my children then I give to the said Elizabeth Rouse Alston the black mourning brooch with my mothers hair in it the pair of slave gold earrings the cameo locket the diamond ring given me by my father the locket set with diamonds and emerald hereinbefore given to the said Lucy Douglas Hamilton I give to my brother Robert Marsden Fitzgerald a small writing case a brooch with carbuncle stone in case a brooch containing the likeness and hair of Mary Fitzgerald a mourning ring with my fathers hair a mourning ring with my mothers hair end a black jet brooch with a gold rim I give to Henry Sotheby Blake hereinafter mentioned a mourning ring set with five diamonds I give devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate both in England and else where not hereinbefore otherwise disposes of (except estates vested in me as a trustee or mortgagee) unto my trustees hereinafter mentioned their heirs executors administrators and assigns respectively Upon trust with and out of such part of my personal estate as shall consist of money to pay my funeral and testamentary expenses and debts and the legacy or legacies bequeathed by this my will or any codicil hereto And upon further trust to allow my said real and personal property (including any furniture and other chattels and effects) to remain in the same state or state of investment in which it shall be at the time of my death notwithstanding such investments may be other than those hereinafter mentioned or may not be producing any interest or if my said trustees shall think fit to sell call In and convert into money the name or such part or parts thereof as shall not consist of money and with such discretion as aforesaid to invest the moneys produced by such sale calling in and conversion in the names or name of my trustees or trustee in or upon any of the Parliamentary stocks or public funds or Government securities of the United Kingdom or in or upon any stock s funds or Government of India or in the stock of the Bank of England commonly called bank stock or upon mortgages of any messuages lands or hereditaments situate arising or being in England or Wales (but not in Scotland or Ireland) and using freehold or copyhold of inheritance or leasehold for a term of years whereof at least sixty years shall be unexpired at the time of such investment and whether the lessors title shall be produced or not or upon or in the debentures or debenture stock or the preference stock or preference shares of any railway or other company in Great Britain incorporated by Act of Parliament or Royal Charter and paying a dividend an its ordinary stock or shares or upon or in the debentures or stock or shares of any Indian Railway company whereon a fixed or minimum rate of interest or dividend is or snail be guaranteed by the Government of India and shall or may from time to time with such discretion as aforesaid vary the said investments into or for others of the same or a like nature and shall stand possessed of the said residuary trust premises and the stocks shares funds and securities in to time be invested (hereinafter called the residuary trust funds) Upon the trusts following that is to say In trust for my said three children who being a son or sons shall attain the age of twenty one years or being a daughter shall attain that age or marry in equal shares Provided always that if any child of me shall die in my lifetime leaving a child or children who shall survive me and being a son or sons shall attain the age of twenty one years or being a daughter or daughters shall attain that age or marry then and in every such case the last mentioned child or children shall take (and if more than one equally between them) the share which his or her or their parent would have taken of and in the residuary trust funds if such parent had survived me and attained the age of twenty one years And I declare that my trustees or trustee shall apply the whole or such part as they as or she shall think fit of the income of the share to which any child or grandchild of me being an infant shall or may for the time being be entitled in expectancy under this my will for or towards his or her maintenance and education with liberty to pay the same to the guardian of such infant for the purpose afore said without using liable to see to the application thereof And shall invest the residue (if any) of the said income and the resulting income thereof in the names or name of my trustees or trustee in or upon any such stocks funds shares or securities as aforesaid so as to accumulate at compound interest with liberty from time to time to vary the said investments into or for others of the same or a like nature and shall stand possessed of the said accumulations in trust for the person or persons who shall become entitled to the share from which the same shall have proceeded with liberty nevertheless for my trustees or trustee from time to time to resort to the accumulations of any preceding year or years and to apply the same for or towards the maintenance or education of any person for the time being presumptively entitled thereto And I direct that my trustees or trustee shall use and permit to be used any furniture or other chattels which they in their discretion shall not sell in such manner as to them shall seem best for the benefit of my children or child until the youngest of them shall attain a vested interest And I empower my trustees or trustee at their his or her discretion to raise the whole or such part or parts as my trustees or trustee shall think fit of the expectant or presumptive share of any child or grandchild of me under this my will and to apply the same for his or her advancement preferment or benefit as my trustees or trustee at such discretion as aforesaid shall think fit at present I leave the residue undisposed of in case there shall be no person to take under the disposition hereinbefore contained And I hereby declare that if the trustees hereby appointed or either of them shall die in my lifetime or if or either of them or any future trustee or trustees of this my will shall die or refuse or become incapable to act in the trusts of this my shall be fully performed then and in every such case it shall be continuing trustees or trustee for the time being of this my there shall be no continuing trustees or trustee then for the retiring trustee or the acting executors or administrators executors or administrators of the last acting trustee to appoint any other person or persons to be a trustee in the place of the trustee or trustees so dying or desiring to retire to act as aforesaid with liberty upon any such appointment to increase or diminish the original number of trustees And upon every such appointment the trust premises shall be so conveyed and transferred that the same may become vested in the new trustee or trustees either jointly with the continuing trustee or trustees or solely as the case may require And every such new trustee or trustees (as well before as after the trust premises shall have become vested in him) shall have all the powers and authorities of the trustee in whose place he shall be substituted I devise and bequeath all estates vested in me as a trustee or mortgagee unto the said Lucy Douglas Hamilton *Henry Sotheby Blake*, Kilmer Augustus Arthur Brassier Creagh William Evelyn Alston and Elizabeth Rouse Alston their heirs executors and administrators subject to the trusts and equities affecting the same respectively but so that the money secured by any such mortgages shall form part of my personal estate I hereby declare that all bequests in favor of females contained in this my will or any codicil hereto shall be for their sole and separate use without power of anticipation I appoint my sister the said Lucy Douglas-Hamilton the said *Henry Sotheby Blake* Kilmer Augustus Arthur Brassier Creagh of Creagh Castle Doneraill in the County of Cork Ireland J.P. THIS IS A CODICIL to my above written Will I appoint the above mentioned William Evelyn Alston and Elizabeth Rouse his wife and the survivor of them to be guardians and guardian to any infant children at the time of my death instead of my sister Lucy Douglas Hamilton and I give to the said Elizabeth Rouse Alston the Black mourning brooch with my mothers hair in it the pair of slave gold earrings the cameo with locket the diamond ring given me by my father and the locket set with diamonds and emeralds which by my Will I have given to my sister Lucy Douglas Hamilton but if both of them the said William Evelyn Alston and Elizabeth Rouse Alston shall die in my lifetime then I appoint the said Lucy Douglas Hamilton guardian of my infant children and bequeath to her the articles hereby given to the said Elizabeth Rouse Alston In all other respects I confirm may above written will Dated twenty fifth July one thousand eight hundred and eighty two - HENRIETTA BLAKE - Signed and declared by the testatrix as a codicil to her Will in our presence and we in her presence at her request and in the presence of each other each present at the same time have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses- FRANCIS DOLEMAN 45 Cornhill Solr - HENRY W PETCH Clerk to Messrs Doleman & Pritchard
ON the 26th day of April 1913 Probate of this will with a codicil was granted to Lucy Douglas Hamilton and Elizabeth Rouse Alston the surviving executors
There is no solicitor named on the Probate of Henrietta's (mother) Will but the codicil of the Will was witnessed by Francis Doleman, 45 Cornhill, Solicitor and Henry W Petch Clerk to Messrs Doleman & Pritchard
