Lucy sailed to England with her sister Elizabeth Rouse Alston and her brother-in-law William Evelyn Alston on board the Rifleman in 1868 at the age of 17 and later married Aubrey Reginald Douglas-Hamilton and had 4 sons and 1 daughter, they lived at Broadlands, Broadstairs, Co. Kent and she died in 1939.

Will of Lucy Fitzgerald 23 Oct 1937 THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me Lucy Douglas-Hamilton of Broadlands Broadstairs County of Kent, Widow. 1. I hereby revoke all former Wills Codicils and Testamentary dispositions made by me and Declare this to be my last Will. 2. I appoint my sons Herbert Eustace Seymour Douglas-Hamilton and Claud Archibald Aubrey Douglas-Hamilton (Hereinafter called "my English Trustees") to be Executors and Trustee of this my Will for the purpose of dealing with all real and personal estate belonging to me in the United Kingdom or in any other Country or place except in the Commonwealth of Australia or the dominion of New Zealand. 3. I appoint the Perpetual Trustee Company Limited of 33/39 Hunter Street, Sydney in the State of New South Wales (hereinafter called "my Australian Trustees") to be the Executors and Trustees of this my Will for the purpose of dealing with all real and personal estate belonging to me in the Commonwealth of Australia or the Dominion of New Zealand. 4. I bequeath the following specific legacies free of duty:- (a) To my Son, Herbert, My old silver flower vase and my large silver fruit knife and fork in case (given to me as a wedding present from Mr and Mrs Fell). (b) To my son, Claud, My old clock (under glass - 200 years old) My Holy Water Cup, My Rosary (blessed by Pius IX at St. Peters, Rome) My two gold spoons in case (given by me dear children on the 50th anniversary of my wedding day) Two cases containing small silver spoons (from India) (c) To my granddaughter Doreen Douglas-Hamilton my opal and diamond ring, my emerald and diamond ring, my gold cable bracelet, my gold cable necklace and my topaz locket in case. (d) To my granddaughter Evelyn Daphne Douglas-Hamilton my diamond cross, my single stone diamond ring and my single stone diamond brooch. (e) All the remainder of my jewellery, furniture, clothing, plate, plated goods, linen, china, glass and other personal articles or household use of ornament to my sons Herbert and Claud in equal shares. 5. I bequeath the following pecuniary legacies free of duty:- (a) To my son, Claud, one thousand pounds, as some recognition of the trouble he has taken in seeing to the affairs of myself and my late husband. (b) To each of my daughter-in-laws, Evelyn Addison Douglas-Hamilton and Ruth Douglas-Hamilton five hundred pounds (c) to each of my grand children, Evelyn Daphne Doreen and Cecil Douglas-Hamilton one hundred pounds (d) To my cook, Edith Sarah Bone two hundred pounds if she shall be in my service at the date of my death. (e) To my maid Vera Hannaford fifty pounds, if she shall be in my service at the date of my death. (f) To my gardener, Edward Pantony, one hundred and fifty pounds if he shall be in my service at the date of my death. 5. I devise my freehold property known as Broadlands Broadstaris aforesaid to my son Claud absolutely free 7. I devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate situate and being within the jurisdiction of the Courts of the Commonwealth of Australia and of the Dominion of New Zealand and all debts and choses in action recoverable or irrecoverable in such Courts to my Australian Trustees. 8. I direct my Australia Trustees either to retain my said estate in its existing state of investment or at their discretion to sell call in and convert into money the same or any part thereof and after deduction of the remuneration hereinafter directed to be paid to them, and of all duties and other payments due to be paid out of my said estate to transfer the residue of my said estate and the proceed of sale thereof to my English Trustees or as they shall direct AND I declare that the receipt of my English Trustees shall be a good and complete discharge for all property transferred or moneys paid to them by my Australina Trustees who shall not be required to see to the application thereof by my English Trustees. 9. I devise and bequeath all my real and all the residue of personal estate (other that my real and personal estate devised and bequeathed to my Australian Trustees) unto my English Trustees UPON TRUST that they shall either retain the same in it existing state of investment or at their discretion sell call in and convert into money the same or any part thereof and after payment of all duties debts funeral and testamentary expenses and legacies to stand possessed of the residue of my estate and of all property and money transfers or paid to them by my Australina Trustees UPON TRUST for my said sons Herbert and Claud in equal share absolutely. 10. (a) The Perpetual Trustee Company Limited shall be entitled to charge and be paid all fees charges and remuneration both out of capital and out of income in accordance with the current scale of charges of that company if such company shall prove my Will and act in the trusts hereof as regards my estate in Australia and New Zealand. (b) ANY other Executor or Trustee (whether one of my English or Australian Trustees) being a solicitor or other person engaged to be paid all usual opr business shall be entitled to be paid all usual professional or proper charges for business dome by him or his firm including acts which an Executor or Trustee nat being in any profession or business could have done personally. (c) I authorise my Australian Trustees to manage and cultivate all freehold and leasehold hereditaments for the time being vested in them with all powers in the behalf as absolute owners. (d) I authorise my Australian Trustees to pay any of my debts or any claims upon my estate in Australia and New Zealand upon any evidence which they shall think sufficient and to accept any composition or any security real otr personal for any debt due to me or my estate and generally to del with all such debts as they shall think expedient without being responsible for loss. (e) I Devise to the said Perpetual Trustee Company Limited all freehold hereditaments in the said Commonwealth or Dominion vested in me at the time of my death as a Trustee or mortagee subject to the Trusts or Equities affecting the same respectively.
