Barkas, in his An interesting corner of Richmond Green writes: "In 1764 we find a Mr Charles Delafosse, schoolmaster, who had settled in Richmond in 1759, advertised in the London papers that he is removed into the house late Colonel Soulegre's on Richmond Green, which he doubts not will give full satisfaction to all parents and guardians as shall please to view the premises".He then describes the house, and continues 'that in short notwithstanding Mr Delafosse has such accommodation for his boarders as few, if any, private schools in the Kingdom can equal, yet his terms are extremely moderate, and every article relative to health, morals, and education will assuredly be duly attended to. When Charles Delafosse died on 3 June 1778, he was succeeded by his son, the Rev Robert Delafosse, who, in turn, on his retirement in 1811, was followed by his son Daniel Charles Delafosse who gave up the school in 1838 the place remained as a place for learning for another 75 years"
