John James Halls studied at the Royal Academy and was a friend and pupil of the great portrait painter John Hoppner whose influence is clearly seen in this portrait. He settled in London exhibiting regularly and widely and established a successful society

John married Maria Ann SELLON [13306] [MRIN: 4465], daughter of Baker John SELLON B.C.L. [13299] and Charlotte DICKINSON [13298], on 2 Dec 1819 in St James Clerkenwell. (Maria Ann SELLON [13306] was born on 14 Nov 1795 in Gt Stanmore MDX and died on 30 Jul 1881 in England..)
