Willie Magie, was a South Sea Islander from Ambrym, Vanuatu, then known as Espiritu Santo.
In the 19thC many South Sea Islanders were brought to Australia as cheap labour. This occured particularly in Queensland's sugar industry. Many were unlawfully kidnapped, "blackbirded", and treated little better than slaves.

Willie married Ellen Ann COORA [13475] [MRIN: 4479], daughter of Charles CORA [14130] and Ann CARR [14131], on 7 Mar 1902 in Primitive Methodist Ch Rockhampton. (Ellen Ann COORA [13475] was born in 1884 in Rockhampton QLD.)
