THE NEW GOVERNMENT GEOLOGIST. Mr. William Henry Rands, who was lately appointed to succeed Mr. R.L. Jack as Government Geologist of Queensland on the retirement of the latter to take up a position in connection with a Chinese mineral concession, has for many years occupied the position of assistant geologist, to which office he was appointed in 1888. Mr. Rands is well known all over the Queensland mineral fields, on which he has carried out important work in connection with the geological surrey of the colony.
