Thomas ELWORTHY [14858]

  General Notes:

Thomas Elworthy in the late 18th C. founded a woollen mill at Westford nr Wellington, producing serge. Over the years it grew into a substantial enterprise continuing in the family until 1858, then under the name Elworthy Brothers & Co. until it ceased operations in 1934.

Di Wilson nee Elworthy, in 2002 was in correspondance with a George Elworthy Operations Manager of The Eden Project in Cornwall.

He advises that his Elworthy family originate in mid-Devon, and two brothers are missing from their Tree. His Aunt had met with Lord (Sam) Elworthy in Britain and determined the period of the missing brothers was about the time of the known establishment of this Elworthy family.

Thomas married Hannah PYNE [14859] [MRIN: 5265] on 21 Jan 1782 in St John Wellington SOM. (Hannah PYNE [14859] was born about 1754 in Wellington SOM and died on 30 May 1827 in Wellington SOM.)
