  General Notes:

The Bendyshe family claimed a close connection with Horatio Nelson. John was the squire of the village of Barrington near Cambridge. In 1939 he sold Barrington and moved to Broomford Manor in Devon.

A family tale about his only visit to New Zealand to get married, having travelled to Timaru by rail, when asked by his future father-in-law "How do you like New Zealand" he replied "Not very much. There were no porters at the station, and when I asked the guard to take my bags he told me in no uncertain terms to carry them yourself."

Engagements.
An engagement of New Zealand interest is that between Captain John Nelson Bendyshe, late of the Worcestershire Regiment, of Barrington Hall, Cambridgeshire, only son of the late Lt Col are in Bendyshe RMLL and Mrs Bendyshe, and Margaret Elliott, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert Elworthy, of Craigmore, Timaru, states our London correspondent.
