General Notes:
The Will of William Pheasant 1662. I William Phesant of the Parish of St. Dunstons in the West, London Tallow Chandler being of perfect mind and memory, praise be given to God therefore. Do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say First and above all things I commend my soule unto the hands of Almighty God my Saviour and redeemer. And my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian burial. Item I give and bequeath to the poor of the Parish of Easingdon in the County of Hartford wherein I was born Three pounds good money to be paid to the Church wardens and overseers of the poor for the tyme . . . . . in that parish. And they to give and dispose of it where most need is. Item I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish wherein I now live Forty shillings to be given as myne Executrix shall think fit. Item I give and bequeath unto my kinsman John Phesant living in the parish of St. Bride in the City of London Three pounds of good money yearly and every year by even . . . . . and equal portions of two equal halves in the year - The Ascention of the Blessed Virgin and St. Michael the Archangel - during his natural life. The first to be paid unto him being Thirty shillings on the first of the aforenamed feasts that shall come and be after my decease. And FOR FOUR (further) payments thereof to be made according to my will and meaning. I do hereby charge my now dwelling house in Chancery Lane London for performance and payment of the said Annuity of three pounds a year during the natural life of the said John Phesant (into whose hands forever it shall or may happen to come (?). and not longer Item I give and bequeath to my Neece Anne now the wife of John Allen, ten pounds. Item I give and bequeath to her sister Joane ten pounds Item I give and bequeath to my daughters husbands, Edward Husband, Edward Stratton and Humphrey Tuckey ten pounds apiece for mourning (?) And to my daughter Anne the wife of Edward Stratton aforesaid to buy them mourning to weare for my sake. Item I give and bequeath to my grandchild Edward Husbands ten pounds. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my dearest loving wife Joane Phesant my dwelling house and all thereunto belonging situate and being in Chancery Lane London And known . . . . . or called by the figure of the Nags Head. To be . . . . . All the rents and profits thereof to her own use and disposing (duly paying three pounds yearly out of it to John Phesant as before I have bequeathed and given) during her natural life. And immediately from and after her decease I do hereby devise . . . . . and grant warrant confirming the said house and land whereon it stands and all thereunto belonging with the appurtenances to my Grand-daughter Anne Tuckey daughter of Humphrey Tuckey before named and to her heirs for ever . . . . . and behoof of her and her heirs forever (except before excepted). And I do likewise give devise and bequeath to my said wife Joane Phesant our other house of myne with the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate belonging and being in the New Pallace in the City of Westminster in the County of Middlesex and now in the Tenure or occupation of . . . . . her under-tenant or assigns known or called by the figure of the White House/Horse (?) to take and have and receive the rents . . . . . of rents and profits thereof attributing and to . . . . . during her natural life To her . . . . . from and after her decease I do likewise hereby give devise grant warrant and constitute the said last mentioned house and lands whereon it standeth And all . . . . . unto belonging with the appurtenance unto my daughter Anne Stratton wife of Edward Stratton, gent, before named And to her heirs forever for the . . . . . behoof of her and her heirs forever. And my will and desire and meaning is that all the legacies hereby and herein given or bequeathed be all truly paid and discharged within one whole year after my decease And all therewise of myne estate whatsoever to my after my debts legacies and funeral expenses being first paid and discharged. I grant & (?) Appoint my dear and ever loving wife sole and whole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament nullifying . . . . . and hereby making void all former and other . . . . . wills codicils whatsoever.
