Alexander founded in 1843, with investors from England, a cotton factory, La Hormiga, at Tizapan Mexico City, manufacturing all kinds of undyed cotton blanket. (La Hormiga translates as The Ant)

In 1864 Alexander and his family left Mexico and returned to London where they settled at 84 Westbourne Tce Paddington.
