Robert did not marry he left England on the Lady McDonald from Plymouth for Australia on 31 Jun 1860 arriving 15 Dec 1860. He is described as a plumber & glazier born in Lancashire, aged 18, he could read and write, religion Church of England, and paid L4.0.0 for the passage.

He was left an oak chest by Elizabeth Fenn [19720] in her Will suggesting he was back in England by that time.

THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me Robert Edward Ayres of 43 George Street in the parish of New Chesterton Cambridgeshire I HEREBY REVOKE all Wills by me at any time heretofore made I APPOINT Mr Jim LAWFORD (Cycle Engineer) of 43 George Street to be my EXECUTOR I have no debts or expenses and my funeral expenses will be managed and paid by Bro. Distrow of Court Pride (Foresters) Bell Inn Newmarket Road out of my funeral allowance I GIVE AND BEQUEATH unto Mrs James Lawford (the wife of my executor) of 46 George Street New Chesterston (sic) all monies with interest that is deposited in name of Robert Edward Ayers in the Bank of Messrs Barclay & Co (Mortlock Bk) Benet Street, Cambridge in the County of Cambridgeshire of the value of one hundred and forty pounds sterling (L140) with interest also all my money interest in Court Pride Foresters Building Society No 3872 Bell Inn Newmarket Road Cambridgeshire also my cash box with its contents of money silver plate old coins and trinkets also everything in the house that belongs to me the said Robert Edward Ayres.
IN WITNESS whereof I have to this my last Will and testament set my hand the 5th day of July in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and seven.
