The portrait of Rev. John Lord hangs in the Chancel. It is a contemporary dated likeness of this vicar who lived from 1614 - 1681 and who was the incumbent at Salehurst between 1640 and his death. The painter is unknown. The painting was presented to the church in 1937 and had previously been in the keeping of his family. Lord kept a copious diary during his Vicariate, which is preserved in the church, and apparently having royalist sympathies he was absent from the parish for three and a half years during the Civil War.
