Mentions her Aunt Mary Alston, a Thomas Alston (perhaps her uncle), brother Samuel and his children, her sisters and various cousins and friends servants and the poor. Copy on file 2004 to be transcribed. Ref Ips RO 1CAA/135/89

The Will of Alice Alston
18 Sep 1694

In the name of God amen. I Alice Alston of Sibton in the county of Suffolk being in health of body and sound mind and memory but knowing the uncertainty of life do make my last will and testament in manner and form following. My soul I humbly commend to God in the mercies of Jesus Christ my savior, my body I commit to the earth from whence all was taken, and as to my estate I do dispose thereof as followeth.
Imprimis I give to my aunt Mistress Margaret Bening the sum of five pounds, and to my goddaughter
Alice Betts five pounds, and to my godson Thomas Warren five pounds, and to Mr Francis Barker with whom I board ten pounds, and to my kinsman Mr. William Betts the sum of twenty pounds, and I give to the poor of Marlesford forty shillings and the poor of the parish where I shall happen to die forty shillings, and to my uncles Mr. Thomas Alston and Mr. Thomas Rocke and to my aunt Mistress Mary Alston and to my kinswomen Mistress Elizabeth Lowde, Mistress Mary Betts, and Mistress Jean Mann and Mistress Margaret Mann, and Mistress Hannah Rookewood each of them a ring of twenty shillings in remembrance of me, and to my kinswoman Mistress Dorothy Betts wife of the said William Betts my silver server, and to my sister Alston my locket of diamonds, and to my sister Rookewood my gold watch, and to my cousin
Mary Brockden I give my mother's Christening blanket, and I give to my cousin Mistress Eleanor Puckle my locket of my mother's hair, and my book called 'the life of the holy Jesus' to Mistress Barker with whom I board. All the rest and residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever after the payment of my debts,
legacies, funerals, probate and execution of my will I give to my executors hereafter named upon the trusts following, that is to say the trust that they shall as soon as they can get the same together they shall put the whole sum out to interest upon the best security or securities they can get for the same,and that all the interest that shall be made of forty pounds thereof during the life of my said sister Mistress Elizabeth Rookewood I will shall be paid into her hands and for her separate use and her husband not to intermeddle therewith during the term of her natural life, and her receipt for the same I will shall be a sufficient discharge for my executors against her husband and all claiming under him, and the residue of the interest that shall be made of the rest of my said estate I will shall be paid to my brother Mr. Samuel Alston during the term of his natural life, and after his decease I will that three hundred pounds parcel of my said estate shall be equally divided amongst and paid unto my said brothers *… daughters Elizabeth Ann *…
and the residue of my said estate after the said three hundred pounds be paid I will and devise unto my nephew William Alston son of my said brother Samuel Alston *… and if either of my brothers, their children die in the life time of their father then I will the part or share of her or him so dying shall be equally divided amongst the survivor of them, and if they all die in the lifetime of their said father then I give the whole to their said father his executors, administrators, and assigns, and I will my executors shall be paid their expenses in the execution of this trust and not be liable to make good any more interest than they shall actually receive nor bar any part of the lost if any of the money should be lost in being put out to interest so as the said losses not occasioned by their willful neglect or default, and I give to the servants of the house where I shall happen to die twenty shillings and the worst of my wearing clothes and linen to be equally divided amongst them, and
I desire to be buried at Marlesford as near my father and mother as I can, and I do revoke all former wills by me made and declare this to be my last will and do make the said Francis Barker and the said William Betts executors thereof, witness my hand and seal the 18th day of September anno Domini 1694.
