Written by his nephew James McIntosh it reads:
"Uncle Monty,
my mother's favourite brother \endash a very good games player at OUNDLE SCHOOL \endash who at the age of 19, went out to France, 1915, as a platoon commander (30 men) of the 1st Cambridgeshire Regiment. His platoon was under heavy German bombardment on May 5, 1915, at Hill 60, near Ypres.
Eventually he himself was hit and carried down to the dressing station. As an officer he was carried to the head of the queue of his men. He refused to be treated before his troops and died from loss of blood"

This gentleman is quite removed as kin in this Tree, but the researcher wishes to record acts of bravery and honour, which marked out men of character who rose above the dreadful horror of this conflict. ELF.
