General Notes:
EXTRACTS from the PARISH REGISTERS of LEE, co. KENT, given in Hasted's Kent, Vol. iv. p. 234. Baptism. 5th Aug. 1645 Elizab. dau. Col. Geo. Thomson and Elizab. his wife. Marriage. Sept 1662. Mr. Joseph Alston, of Lombard Street, and Elizabeth Thompson, of Lee.
Burke's Extinct Baronetage and other Pedigrees state that Sir Joseph Astton, 2 Bart. of Chelsea, married Elizabeth, daughter of Maurice Thompson, Esq., and sister to John, 1st Lord Haversham, but from the above pedigree (page 396 Alstoniana) and the Lee Registers I thought that Lady Alston must be the daughter of (Colonel) George Thompson, brother of Maurice and uncle of John, First Baron Haversham, and to this idea Ur. Cokayne's letter (page 300 Alstoniana) and the absence of any Alston-Thompson alliance from the Haversham pedigree (p.396) gave some support. But the evidence of the Chancery Suit, Alston v. Alston (see Sir Joseph [3235]) puts the fact beyond doubt that Dame Elizabeth was the daughter of Maurice Thompson. Apparently Elizabeth Thompson was married twice, first to one called George, and then to Sir Joseph Alston. Alstoniana Pg 397
