John assumed the Alston name and title, he was a Fellow Commoner of Christ College Cambridge. He died aged 44 his will in the name of John Wasse of Stowe Hall co Cambridgeshire lately of New Cavendish St, St Mary-le-Bow MDX, was dated 25 Aug 1790 with Codicil in the name of Sir John Alston dated 14 Nov 1795, it was proved PCC 11 Apr 1807.

1807 Feb 20, aet 45. Sir John Alston Bart. issue a dau. only. The title devolves on his brother now Sir Chas. Alston Bart.
This was a case of Baronetcy by assumption, writes Cresswell.
