Research Notes:
Dear Edward, I am a professional historian working on the Temple family of Stowe, Bucks in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. I noticed that some of the details of Dorothy Lee's marriage on the website are slightly incorrect. It is true that Dorothy married Sir John Temple of Biddlesden and Stantonbury BUT the John Temple she married was the second of that name born to his parents, Sir Thomas and Lady Hester Temple of Stowe. The first John was baptised in 1593 at Stowe but his burial is recorded a few months later in the parish register. (There is also a memorial tablet to him in Stowe church.) The John Dorothy married was born in 1598 and his birth is recorded in his mother's register of births held at The Huntington Library, California and his baptism in the Stowe parish register that year. It was not uncommon at that time for the same name to be used for more than one child in a family in that way.
Yours sincerely Rosemary O'Day
