Fred Hornung won Tatts in 1937, but he didn't live long after that to enjoy it. He left half his money to his son, Jack, and half to Uncle Bill. He wouldn't leave it to Auntie Hilda, his own daughter, because he said she'd give it away. Ref: Kath Gerahty - Tank Sinker by Guy Burns Pub. 2008
Research Notes:
It is to be noted that these four children born of Mary Isabella after the disappearance of her husband Digby are all registered as surname Gerahty, however they have used the name of what has been taken to be their birth father.
Fred had a relationship with Mary Isabella TREEVE [12854] [MRIN: 4501], daughter of William Thomas Andrew TREEVE [12901] and Jane NEWTON [12902]. (Mary Isabella TREEVE [12854] was born on 30 Nov 1868 in Sweers Is. Gulf of Carpentaria QLD. and died on 28 Feb 1917 in Charters Towers QLD.)
