Edward I. surnamed Longshanks from his tall stature and also called the English Justinian and the greatest of the Plantagenets, third son and successor of Henry III, married (I) Eleanor daughter of Ferdinard III. King of Castile (2) As part of the peace accord between England and France in 1294, it was agreed that Edward should marry the French princess Margaret of France, daughter of Philip III. "le Hardi" of France and sister of Philip "le Be1 " then in her 17th year. . The marriage took place in 1299.
Margaret did not long survive her husband, dying at Marlborough Castle, February 14, 1317 in her 36th year.
