Boy Count Fatally Shot.
The French count Gabriel Henry Philip Valeran D'Ailly de Ruvigny, seventeen, son of the Marquis de Ruvigny and a pupil of St Pauls School, died in the West London Hospital from the effects of a gunshot wound.
He was formerly in the Royal Engineer Cadet Corps and he kept his rifle in his bedroom a few minutes after he retired on Saturday night an explosion was heard and he was found lying on the floor with a rifle wound in the abdomen. He was fully dressed and appeared to have been holding the rifle as if cleaning it.
At the inquest on Wednesday the Marquis Ruvigny stated that his son told a priest "Of course, I did not do it on purpose".
About Easter his son put two cartridges into his rifle to shoot a cat which had been attacking his pigeons, but he only fired one shot and he might have forgotten that the other cartridge was in the rifle. The jury returned a verdict of "Death by misadventure."
