R Powell writes in 2016 My research showed that In 1722-23 Edward Pratter was acting as a Merchant in Jamaica for the South Sea Company. He died in 1735 leaving a Will naming his uncle Edward Searle. He also named an Aunty Manning, his sister ANN GARDINER who I am assuming was married to Edward GARDINER, cousins Catherine and Elizabeth Searle and his cousin EDWARD MANNING who he MADE his executor leaving him a sum of L500 EDWARD MANNING was also his successor as Merchant in Jamaica... Edward Pratter in his Will bequeathed unto each of the daughters of my late Aunty Manning L50 and unto Captain Robert Turner L20. I give and bequeath to my kinsman Edward Manning L500 Give and bequeath to Edward Gardiner ( to Uncle Searle and sister Anne Gardiner forever in trust and to the children thereafter cousin Catherine and Elizabeth Searle and their heirs forever. But if it happen that they should die without heirs then I give devise upon my cousin Edward Manning and his heirs for ever provided also and it is my mind and declaring that if by bad debts, loss on remittance or otherwise such loss should happen so that my personal estate should not be sufficient to pay legacies by me herein before given then and in each case my real estate by me declared as aforesaid shall make good the same out of the issues, rent and profits thereof and whereas my parcel of land in the parish of St Thomas in the East near the plantation of the RT Honourable Lord Onslow, one patented in my name the other in Dr Samuel Page I do declare the same to be in trust for the said RT Hon Lord Onslow and his heirs and assign forever, ....appt Edward Manning as my executor, Sister Anne Gardiner, Uncle Edward Searle.
