Oct 9th 1814 My dear Catherine I hope you will forgive my not writing to you before, when I tell you that till lately I have not been able to write at all, I do not know how much to thank you for your nice long letter, which contained so much news: and am afraid I have not much to tell you. Jane Mason was married last Thursday week, she sent Gloves & Cake, to Margaretta and myself, which was very good of her, they were gone to Brighton (Page 2) for a few weeks I believe. Papa came to see as last Friday, on his way to my uncle John's and we have seen him this morning also, it was quite an unexpected pleasure. We are going home for a few days very soon; you may suppose we are quite delighted at the thought of it, we wish we could have you with us. Thomas went home at Michaelmas for a week, but the little Spirity Eddy, stay till we go home; perhaps you do not know that the former, is to continue at school all the Winter. I am very sorry to say that Grand-papa is very ill and it is much feared he may not recover as he is at such an (Page 3) advanced stage. I had almost forgot to say that Margaretta and myself are quite well. I hope that you are the same and your mum, great aunt, to whom Margaretta and myself desire our kind regards, accept our united love and believe me. You're very affectionate . . . . . Anna Nottage. PS. Excuse this short letter as I have not much time to write.
