WOMAN'S WORLD
AN HISTORIC WEDDING
GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER OF REV. THOS. BURNS WEDS DESCENDANT OF CANTERBURY PILGRIMS
First Church was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Wednesday evening, when Constance, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs G. B. Burns, of Otautau, and great-granddaughter of the Rev. Thos. Burns, D.D., first Presbyterian minister of Otago, was married to Cuthbert Keith Torlesse, son of the Rev. P. H. Pritchett and Mrs Pritchett, of Riccarton
The church was very beautifully decorated with masses of pink and cream roses, arranged by girl friends of the bride. During the signing of the register Miss Phyllis Anderson sang "The Crown." The best man was Mr J. M'Giffin (Christchurch), the groomsman, Mr W. Ayres (Invercargill), and the ushers, Messrs S. Reid (Christchurch) and J. Ames (Wellington). Following the religious ceremony, the guests, who came from all parts of the dominion, attended a reception at the Strand Salon, where they were received by Mr and Mrs Burns, the latter wearing a handsome gown of brown chenille georgette, a smart straw hat to tone, with tiny wool flowers in scheme. Some branches have also made garments to send to those in other districts, but the Portobello branch has very conspicuously achieved this object of helping others by making a large box of practical and intriguing Christmas presents, including woolly rabbits, dogs, dolls, and a very beautiful elephant and a bear. The out-shades of orange and lemon and carrying a bouquet of ranunculi in shades to tone. Mrs Pritchett wore a black lace frock, a smart black hat with touches of white, and a shoulder spray of pink roses. When Mr and Mrs Keith Pritchett left later by car, the bride wore a navy ensemble in wool pique and a chic hat to match.
