Gordon went to the Merchant Tailor's School in England (as did his brothers) he worked for Imperial Bank of India becoming Bank Manager in Dehli. Although he never married he was very attentive to attractive women and would be considered a Lady's Man. He loved to wine and dine them, take them dancing and bring flowers, chocolates and silk stockings.
