This is the last will and testament of me John Wasse of Stow Hall in the county of Cambridge now residing in New Cavendish
Street Saint Marylebone in the county of Middlesex Esquire.
In the first place I order and direct all my just debts, legacies, and funeral expenses to be paid out of my personal estate and if the same shall be insufficient then out of my real estates with which I charge the same and

I give, devise and bequeath all my estates both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever whether in possession, reversion, remainder, or expectancy unto my dear and loving wife and her assigns for the term of her natural life and from and after the decease of my said wife then I give, devise, and bequeath the same to all and every my children lawfully begotten or to be begotten to be equally divided between and amongst them share and share alike and to their respective heirs and assigns to take as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and in case I shall have only one child then and in such case
I give, devise, and bequeath my said real and personal estate to such only child, his or her heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns and in case I shall leave no child or children who shall live to attain the age of twenty one years or be married then I give, devise, and bequeath all my said real and personal estate unto and to the use of my brother or reputed brother Charles Wasse his heirs, administrators, executors and assigns forever and I give and bequeath to my said brother the sum of fifty pounds as a legacy to be paid by my executrix within twelve months after my decease and I do hereby nominate, constitute, and appoint my said wife guardian of the persons and estates of my children and also sole executrix of this my will and lastly I do hereby revoke all former wills by me at any time heretofore made, and publish and
declare this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I the said John Wasse have to this my will and to a duplicate hereof set my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of August one thousand seven hundred and ninety

I Sir John Alston of Stowe Hall in the county of Cambridge Baronet late called John Wasse Esquire do make and declare this to be a codicil to my last will and testament and desire the same to be taken as a part thereof. Whereas I have by my said last will and testament given and bequeathed unto my brother Charles Alston a legacy or sum of one hundred pounds now I do hereby revoke the said legacy so bequeathed to my said brother and in lieu thereof do hereby give and bequeath to him the sum of ten guineas for a ring and whereas I have contracted and agreed to sell and dispose of my estate at Long Stowe in the said county unto Sir Robert Thompson of Kensington in the county of Middlesex doctor of divinity I do hereby ratify
and confirm the said contract and desire the same to be carried into execution I do hereby ratify and confirm my said last will and testament and every matter and thing therein contained save and except as to the said legacy of one hundred pounds which I have by this codicil revoked in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of November one thousand seven hundred and ninety five.

This will was proved at London with a codicil the eleventh day of April in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and seven before the Right Honourable Sir William Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Dame Elizabeth Alston otherwise Elizabeth Wasse widow the relict of
the deceased and sole executrix named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods, chattels, and credits of the said deceased she having been first sworn by commission duly to administer.

John assumed the Alston name and title, he was a Fellow Commoner of Christ College Cambridge. He died aged 44 his will in the name of John Wasse of Stowe Hall co Cambridgeshire lately of New Cavendish St, St Mary-le-Bow MDX, was dated 25 Aug 1790 with Codicil in the name of Sir John Alston dated 14 Nov 1795, it was proved PCC 11 Apr 1807.

John had a relationship with Dame Catherine DAVIS-BOVEY [3061] [MRIN: 1441], daughter of Rev Dr Thomas DAVIS BOVEY of Stow Cambridge. [3062] and Catherine SHAW [4169]. (Dame Catherine DAVIS-BOVEY [3061] was born on 2 Jul 1732 in Longstowe CAM, baptised on 19 Jul 1732 in Longstowe CAM and died in Jun 1778 in Stafford STS.)
