1. Alexander Martin Edwards: Will, 18 Oct 1823, Bahama Islands New Providence. In the Name of God Amen I Alexander Martin Edwards of the Island of New Providence, Esquire, being of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make (defaced) I Will and direct that I may be respectably buried without any unnecessary expense, and after my funeral charges and other just debts are fully paid and satisfied, I give, devise and bequeath to my good and dear friend Alexandrina Sarah Hewitt of the Island of New Providence, Spinster, my negro Girl Slave name Phabe [?] together and with her future issue and increase of her the said Phabe. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my loving wife Sophie Ann Edwards all and every the other property which I may die possessed of whatever nature or kind soever, be it Real or Personal or wherever the same may be at the time of my death, unto her the said Sophie Ann Edwards, for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after the demise of my said loving wife I give, devise and bequeath the same and every part parcel and Property whatever to Norman Wallace, at present of Savannah in the State of Georgia, one of the United States of America, Gentleman, and to his Heirs and assigns (Page 2) In trust to and for the uses, intent and purposes hereinafter expressed, that is to say to and for the use benefit [?] and behalf of all and every the child and children of me the Testator Alexander Martin Edwards lawfully begotten in the body of the said Sophia Ann Edwards, to and for their and every of their Education [defaced] disposed of by the said [defaced] purposes aforesaid in such manner as the said Norman Walker shall deem proper and expedient for the interest of my said child or children. But it is my Will that so soon as my eldest child shall attain the age of Twenty one years then that the little property remaining shall be equally divided among them share and share alike, they taking a tenant in common and as [?] joint tenant in all cases it being my wish that the said Norman Wallace should act as the Guardian and Protector of the minors. And lastly, I do herby nominate, constitute and appoint my Loving Wife Sophia Ann Edwards, sole Executrix to this my last Will, revoking and making void all other Will and Wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I the Testator Alexander Martin Edwards have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal to this my last Will this eighteenth day of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and twenty (Page 3) three and in the Fourth year of His Majesty's Reign. Bahama Islands New Providence To all to whom these presents shall come be it known that upon the ninth day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand, eight hundred and twenty eight before His Excellency Major General Lewis Grant, Governor and Commissioner in Chief in and over the said Islands, Chancellor, Vice Admiral and Ordinary of the same personally came and appeared George Armbrister of New (Page 4) Providence Esquire, who being solemnly sworn upon the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God maketh oath that he was present and did see the within named Alexander Martin Edwards sign and seal the written Will and heard him publish [defaced] Will and Testament the said that [defaced] as did he was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding according to the best of the depondents knowledge and discernment and the deponent further saith that he together with John Thomson and William Martin subscribed their names as witnesses to the due execution and publication of the said Will Sworn to before me Lewis Grant
