bullet  General Notes:

John and his brother Phillip led an interesting life. Both were accused of counterfeiting debenture notes in 1771. John left the colonies before he could be tried and went to what was called "West Florida". John Alston led a group of loyalists into the Creek nation in what is now Alabama about 1782. He was convicted for rebellion against the Spanish but pardoned by the governor. Many details of his life from 1770 until his death in 1802 are available.
See: Joseph A. Groves, The Alstons and Allstons of North and South Carolina (Atlanta, GA: The Franklin Printing and Publishing Company, 1901), 198-205. This is a sketch of John Alston provided by his grand-daughter.
