FIRST GENERATION Alexander Stirling was christened on July 7, 1751 in Kennettles, Angus, Scotland.' He was born in 1753 in Lethan, near Forfar, Angusshire, Scotland.' He served in the military in 1773 in Manchac and Baton Rouge, West Florida.' He signed a will on January 5, 1808 in Alexanders Creek, 3rd District of West Feliciana, Louisiana.' "In the name of God, Amen. I, Alexander Stirling, native of Farfar, Angushire, North Britain, now of Alexander's Creek, in the third district of West Feliciana, providence of Louisisana, planter, being at present in good health, and of sound mind, memory and understanding, do make and desire this to be my last will and testament." "Firstly I commend my soul to the Almighty Gad and my body to the earth...." Secondly through Eighty are the bequeths to immediate family members. Ninthly: "In gratitude to my brother, Peter Stirling, residing on North Britain, I invalidate my claim and that of my heirs and successors to one thousand dollars, already made a present of his youngest daughter Janet, and also bequeth to each of his three sons, Frederick, Alexander and John Stirling, five hundred dollars." Signed Alexander Stirling, and dated 5 January, 1808 He died on June 6, 1808 in Egypt Plantation, West Feliciana, Louisiana.''' He had an estate probated on May 20, 1818 in Parish of Feliciana, Louisiana. He had an estate probated on February 1, 1819 in Parish of Feliciana, Louisiana. He was an Alcade and Planter of Cotton and Sugar Cane 1784- in West Feliciana. Parish, Louisiana.' Alexander was in the First Regiment of Genadirs under Spanish General Don Bernardo de Dalvez against the Brisish at Manchac and Baton Rouge, gallantly siding in the defeat of the British and regaining control o the area for Spain. It was a strange quirk of fate which led Alexander to find a wife whoe father was a loyal Tory not in sympathy with the revolution against England at all. John Alston traced his ancestry back to Alfred the Great of England had moved his family to the area fi-o North Carolina, obtaining a large land grant near Natchez fi-om the British. After the ouster by the British by the Spanish he was jailed in Natchez, and he sent his wife and children to Point Coupee Parish. He was sent to prison in Moro Castle in Havana. His daughter Ann met Alexander there, and they were married in 1784. Source: Newspaper article

Stirling writes the following account of Alexander Stirling Alexander Stirling, our first ancestor of this name, came to this continent (America) as a young man, eventually making his way to the Spanish settlement just west of the Mississippi River in West Florida. The area is now a part of Louisiana, thus this branch of the family is known as the LOUISIANA STIRLINGS. He was married to Ann Alston (daughter of John Alston and unknown) in 1784 in Louisiana.' Alexander Stirling and Alin Alston had the following children: +2 i. Lewis Stirling (born after 1784). +3 ii. Henry Stirling (born on June 5, 1785). +4 iii. Alexander Stirling (born on June 23, 1791). +5 iv. William M. Stirling (born on August 17, 1792). +6 v. Ruffin Stirling (born on April 5, 1795). +7 vi. Ann Stirling (born on November 27, 1797). +8 vii. John Stirling (born on September 19, 1799).
SECOND GENERATION Lewis Stirling (Alexander-1) was born after 1784 in West Feliciana. Parish, Louisiana.' The newspaper states that Alexander and Ann had 12 children. Lewis is the only one mentioned by name. He died between 1855 and 1860.1° It is recorded that Lewis and Sarah had four children. Sarah Turnbull died in 1875.11 Lewis Stirling and Sarah Turnbull had the following children: +9 i. Ruffin Grey Stirling (born on August 11, 1827). 10 ii. Anne Matilda Stirling. 11 iii. Katherine Mary Stirling. 12 iv. James Stirling. 13 v. Daniel T. Stirling. 14 vi. Lewis Stirling. 3. Henry Stirling (Alexander-1) was born on June 5. 1785. He was married to Mary Bowman (daughter of Jacob Bowman and Isabella Lowrie) on July 14, 1807. 4. Alexander Stirling (Alexander-1) was born on June 23. 1791. He died on November 3, 1819. 5. William M. Stirling (Alexander-1) was born on August 17. 1792. He died on July 20, 1842. 6. Ruffin Stirling (Alexander-1) was born on April 5, 1795. He died on July 17, 1854. 7. Ann Stirling (Alexander-1) was born on November 27, 1797. She died on March 3, 1888. She was married to Martin Haynie before 1817. She was married to Andrew Skillman before 1818. 8. John Stirling (Alexander-1) was born on September 19. 1799. He died on August 27, 1829.
THIRD GENERATION 9. Ruffin Grey Stirling (Lewis-2, Alexander-1) was born on August 11, 1827 in Wakefield Plantation, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. He died on November 9, 1881 in Upper Wakefield, West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. He was married to Catherine Hereford Leake on April 18, 1859. Ruffin Grey Stirling and Catherine Hereford Leake had the following children: 15 i. Louis Grey Stirling MD. 16 ii. Sarah Turnbull Stirling was born on July 26, 1860. 17 iii. Ruffin Grey Stirling Jr.. 18 iv. Robert Hereford Stirling. 19 v. Mary Rucker Stirling. 20 vi. Daniel Turnbull Vincent Stirling. 21 vii. Margaret Lacy Stirling. 22 viii. William Leake Stirling.
