bullet  General Notes:

Residence in 1914 Sydney NSW Australia. He enlisted on 22 September 1914 and was a private in the Australian Infantry 22 September 1914 - 30 May 1915. He died of his wounds on 30th May 1915 and is buried at Beach Cemetery Anzac.

It was far from uncommon for 1st generation emigrants to volunteer from Australia. The myth of Gallipoli being an Australian disaster has been developed by Hollywood's inattention to accuracy. There were many more French, Canadian, Indian, Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English troops than ANZACS at Gallipoli. And of those, a good proportion had been in Australia for only a few years, or still had brothers, mothers, fathers, etc in Britain. However it suited the British Government and the Australian recruitment drive to paint it with an antipodean flavour.
