Geo was found guilty of cattle stealing in the Supreme Court, Hobart, on 6 Dec 1834. Sentenced to 15 years transportation to Norfolk Island. Prisoner No: 35/948. Ship: Lady Kennaway.

  Research Notes:

George came out on the Wanstead in 1828 with Henry B Torlesse. Henry B Torlesse was a friend of the father of this young George (Mealing) Steele. George Steele RN (the father) had served in the navy with Edward Bromley R N , Surgeon (on the Monmouth at the Battle of Camperdown 1797).

George married Eliza Henrietta Foord BROMLEY [18087] [MRIN: 6514], daughter of Dr Edward Foord BROMLEY R.N. [18014] and Susanna [18086], on 27 Jul 1830 in New Norfolk Tasmania. (Eliza Henrietta Foord BROMLEY [18087] was born on 21 Apr 1805 in England., baptised in 1828 in Tasmania Aust. and died on 13 Dec 1874 in Hampden Rd Battery Point Tasmania.)

George next married Mary Ann Rebecca HANSLOW [18089] [MRIN: 6515], daughter of Peter HANSLOW [18102] and Mary Ann PORTER [18103], on 31 Dec 1849 in Hunters Hill Morpeth NSW. (Mary Ann Rebecca HANSLOW [18089] was born on 3 Apr 1832 in Sydney NSW Australia and died on 19 Jun 1890 in Golden Vale Berrima NSW.)
