BENTHAM v. ALSTON.
Bill, 13 May 1689, by Joseph Bentham, clerk, rector of Stevenage, co. Herts., v. John Alston, John North and William Titmus.
About 3 years since Fulk Tudor, D.D., deceased, late rector of Stevenage, made a demise to John Alston of Stevenage, gent., and the other defendants of the glebe lands of Stevenage and the tithes. The complainant has confirmed the lease, but defendants refuse to pay rent since the death of Dr. Tudor.
Answer of John Alston, gent. 30 Oct. 1689
He declares the lease was terminable on the death of Dr. Tudor, if it occurred (as was the case) within the term of three years for which it was payable.

The suit relates to the tithes of Stevenage, of which John Alston and the other defendants are lessees. The defendant Alston has been known to John Trigg of Stevenage for 20 years last past.
