First Bishop's grand-daughter HOBART. Miss Nora E. M. Nixon, a grand-daughter of Francis Russell Nixon, first Bishop of Tasmania, died in Hobart on Saturday and was buried yesterday. She was a daughter of Francis William, the eldest son of the Bishop, and was born at Cape Town, where her father was colonel of the Royal Engineers. Miss Nixon left her home in Hampshire, England, at the end of 1952 to pay her first visit to Tasmania. Her main object was to bring a collection of Bishop Nixon's sketches, and letters of his and his wife's. The sketches have been given to the Art Gallery at Hobart, and a great part of the letters were recently published in a small book. 'The Pioneer Bishop of V.D.L." The funeral service took place in the Nixon chapel of St. David's Cathedral, and was conducted by the Dean of Hobart. Members of the Chapter were also present. The Bishop of Tasmania read the lesson from the Bible which formerly belonged to Bishop Nixon and is now in the Nixon chapel. Nearby was the Bishop's seat, which was the chair actually used at the consecration of Bishop Nixon in Westminster Abbey in 1842, and given to him for use in Tasmania. The processional cross carried yesterday was given by Archdeacon Davenport, who worked for many years in Tasmania under Bishop Nixon. The Rev. T. J. Gibson took the service at the crematorium.
