WOMEN IN PRINT. An engagement of New Zealand interest announced by "The Post's" London correspondent is that between Lieutenant J. Y. Torlesse, R.N., and Geraldine, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarke, of Stone Cross, Ashurst, Kent. Lieutenant Torlesse is the youngest son of Captain A. Torlesse, R.N., and Mrs. Torlesse, of Lymington, Hampshire, and grandson of the late Charles Obris Torlesse, of Rangiora and Christchurch. Naval Wedding at Fordcombe. The church of St Peter, Fordcombe, was the scene of a fashionable wedding on Wednesday between Miss Geraldine Penkivil Garle Clarke, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Clarke, of Stone Cross, Ashurst, and Lt John Ynyr George Torlesse, R.N., Son of captain A W Torlesse R.N. and Mrs Torlesse of Hollywood Lymington Hampshire. The officiating clergy were the Rev Dr C Nolluth, D L of Oxford, assisted by the Rev E Hayter Cox, Rector of Ashurst. The service was Choral, Mr Williams presiding at the organ and the hymns sung were "Lead us heavenly father" "O perfect love" and "Now thank we all our God". Flowers in a tasteful scheme of pink and white decorated the church. The bride who was given away by her father, was attired in a plain white dress made in the classical style, the square neck and long sleeves being heavily embroidered in silver. The train was of silver lame, lined with pale pink georgette, one end being turned back with a true lovers knot of orange blossom. The veil was of tuille with a small myrtle wreath. Her only jewels consisted of a rope of seed pearls and she carried a sheaf of lilies. Bridesmaids Dresses. There were four bridesmaids in attendance, Miss Marjorie Clarke (sister), Miss Joan Fynney (cousin), Miss Diana Ottley (cousin), and Miss Molly Wilson. Their dresses were made of rose pink chiffon, the skirts made with four circular flounces. The bodices were plain with silver ribbon round the waist and chiffon coat his, while the elbow sleeves had 4th rules to match the skirts. Their headdresses were coronets of silver leaves with diamond and pearl naval crown broaches in the centre (the gift of the bridegroom). They carried bouquets of dark red roses. The best man was Lt David Torlesse R.N. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride, after which Lt and Mrs Torlesse left for their honeymoon on the continent. The bride travelled in a pinky beige Georgette dress worn with black coat trimmed with beige fur and lined with crepe-de-chine to match the dress. Her hat was of black felt with feather pads of the same colour. The catering was carried out by Messrs Cox (Tunbridge Wells) Ltd Their future home will be in Devonport.
