Dangerous Lunatic.
At the Police Office, on Saturday, a man named David Newton was committed to custody as being a lunatic of so dangerous a description as to be totally unfit to be at large.

David Newton - Admitted 15 April 1851, from Melbourne Gaol. Certified by Dr Mullane and Dr Wilkie. David was classified as a pauper aged 37 married with 7 children. He was born in London his religion was Jewish and he suffered from mania with delusions, his bodily health was good. It is noted his wife Mrs Newton Benjamin & Moses Castlereagh St, Sydney.

David died in the mental hospital 9 Mar 1853 aged 40.

He was first buried in the old Melbourne Cemetery but later removed, 15 Oct 1920, to Fawkner cemetery.


David married Hannah PHILLIPS [13422] [MRIN: 4554], daughter of Barnard Aaron PHILLIPS [13640] and Clara SOLOMON [13641], on 6 Jan 1841 in Bridge St Synagogue Sydney Aust. (Hannah PHILLIPS [13422] was born on 11 Jun 1825 in LND MDX, christened on 22 Jun 1855 in St Lawrence Sydney, died on 22 May 1877 in 1 Derwent St Glebe Sydney NSW and was buried in Camperdown Newtown NSW.)
