Joan Coren writes 2014:
The York family residence at the time of Helena's baptism was indicated as London. But it is thought but not proven the family were living in France at this time. Although it is possible she was born in either London or France, that she was baptized in Broadwater nr Worthing, SSX rather than London poses the probability that the family were in transit, either to or from France.
She was baptized Helen, but grew up and was educated in France where she would have been Helena, her Canadian records find her Helen. She eloped aged 16 using Helena in her marriage records.

Helena married Samuel William SHAW [14282] [MRIN: 4782], son of Maltman William Stevens SHAW [14298] and Julia Emily TURNER [14299], on 9 Jan 1863 in Watford Hertfordshire. (Samuel William SHAW [14282] was born on 18 Nov 1840 in Wandsworth LND, died in 1919 in Midnapore Alberta Canada and was buried in St Pauls Midnapore Calgary CAN.)
