Sir Brian when engaged in the French Wars was captured and imprisoned (about 1419) in the Castle of Blois and detained there for five years until a heavy ransom 3,000 marks (about L30,000 present money - 1905) was paid for his release. He had several manors in Wilts. granted to him by the King on his return. He was the grandson of Sir Miles Stapylton Kt. one of the founders of the Order of the Garter who was a great grandson of John Baliol King of Scotland. The garter plate of Sir Miles still exists at Windsor.

Brian married Cecilia BARDOLPH [15705] [MRIN: 5585], daughter of Sir William 4th Baron BARDOLPH of Wormegay NFK [15707] and Agnes POYNINGS [15708]. (Cecilia BARDOLPH [15705] died about 1432.)
