1881 Census George was recorded as a silk spinner employing 400
He had at the death of his brothers the full responsibility for the family company, he lived at Kebroyd Hall and was very successful and highly respected in the silk trade. He was also fond of art and music and had great regard for the interests of his workers, providing an income for them when they retired.
Failing health saw George in 1891 hand over the reins of the company to his two sons Arthur and Frederick.
