The Will of Thomas Sewell
15 March 1726.
In the name of God Amen this Fifteenth day of March Anno Domini 1726 I Thomas Sewell of Maplestead Parva in the County of Essex being in health of body and sound in mind and of perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following
First and principally I recommend my soul to the mercies of God and my body to be buried in the earth at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named. And my worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I do hereby dispose of and bequeath as following.
Imprimis I give and bequeath to my son William Sewell and to his heirs for ever all those my Messuages lands and tenements called or known by the names of the Lyes Boarfields Woodcocks and Blatches with all and sundry of their appurtenances now in the tenure and occupation of me the said Thomas Sewell Samuel Bates and Samuel Binks John Simpson this condition that he shall pay unto his mother Mary my welbeloved wife the sum of 14 pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain yearly and every year during the term of her natural life by four equal quarterly payments upon the four most usual feast days viz the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin St John the Baptist St Michael the Archangel and the Nativity of our Lord Christ the first payment to be made upon the first of these feast days which shall happen next after my decease
And to my daughter Sarah I Will the sum of twenty shillings yearly and every year during the term of her natural life to be paid quarterly as aforesaid if it be demanded
Item I give and bequeath to my said Wife the use of the Hall chamber in the which I now lodge and also the use of all the furniture which shall be standing in the same at the time of my decease for and during the term of her natural life and also convenient and necessary finding (sic) to be provided and paid for by my said son William Sewell at his own proper cost and charge
Item I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Sewell and to his heirs forever the house and yards thereunto belonging in the lease and occupation of John ffenner
Item I give and bequeath to my son John Sewell the bed now in his possession which I lent him
Item I give and bequeath to my son Ezekiel Sewell the sum of ten shillings to be paid by my executor hereafter named within fourteen days next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath to my son Edward Sewell and to his heirs forever the several cottages now in the lease and occupation of Samuel Binks William Maynard and the Widow Fincham with all and every of their appurtenances aforesaid I give and bequeath to my said son Edward the sum of twenty shillings to be paid by my executor within one month next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Sewell the sum of 200 pounds to be paid by my executor within twelve months next after my decease aforesaid I give and bequeath to my said daughter Sarah the further sum of 10 pounds to be paid by my executor within three months next after my decease for to buy a bed in lieu of that I lent to my son John as aforesaid
Item I give to the poor of Maplestead Parva the sum of twenty shillings to be paid by my executor to the Overseers within one month the next after my decease and to be by them distributed to the poor the Lord's day next following after evening service All the residue of my estate being bonds ready money debts goods chattels and household stuff whatsoever I give and bequeath to William Sewell my son aforenamed whom I do hereby constitute nominate and appoint sole executor of this my last Will hereby revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made.

This was signed sealed testified and declared by the testator and by us subscribed as witnesses in his purpose

Thomas married Mary  [MRIN: 6952]. (Mary  was born in 1660 and died in 1750.)
