The Will of William Sewell Proved 6 June 1763 In the name of God Amen I William Sewell of Great Maplestead in the County of Essex Gentlemen being of sound mind do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say I give and devise unto my brother Ezekiel Sewell my house called Woodcocks with the yard their unto adjoining situate in Little Maplestead in the said County of Essex to hold under him my said brother for and during the term of his natural life and immediately from and after his decease I give and devise the said house and yard to his son my nephew Ezekiel Sewell and to his heirs and assigns for ever Also I give and devise unto my nephew Thomas Sewell the son of my brother Thomas Sewell and to his heirs and assigns all and every other my Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditments whether the same be freehold or copyhold all of whatever nature kind or quality and whatsoever being. To have and to hold the same unto him my said nephew Thomas Sewell and to his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him my said nephew Thomas Sewell his heirs and assigns forever Also I give and bequeath unto my brother Thomas Sewell the sum of 20 pounds of lawful money Also I give and bequeath unto my said brother Ezekiel Sewell an annuity or yearly sum of 18 pounds of lawful money free and clear from all deductions or betterment's whatsoever to be paid to him my said brother Ezekiel Sewell by half yearly equal portions or payments for and during the term of his natural life the first half-year payment thereof to be paid at the expiry of six calendar months next after my decease Also I give and bequeath unto my brother Edward Sewell the sum of 500 pounds of lawful money to be paid to him or his assigns at the expiry of one year after my decease Also I give and bequeath to my sister Sarah Sewell the sum of 500 pounds of lawful money to be paid to her or her assigns at the expiry of one year after my decease Also I give and bequeath unto her my said sister all my chinaware one half part of all my plate and the bed bedstead and furniture of the bed now standing in the Hall Chamber in Hopwell Also I give and bequeath unto my said nephew Ezekiel Sewell the son of my said brother Ezekiel Sewell 15 pounds of lawful money to be paid to him or his assigns at the expiry of one year after my decease Also I give and bequeath to my niece Elizabeth Richards an annuity or yearly sum of forty shillings free and clear from all deductions or abatements whatsoever to be paid to her by half yearly equal portions or payments for and during the term of her natural life Also I give and bequeath unto my niece Sarah Heckford an annuity or yearly sum of fifty shillings free and clear from all deductions or abatements whatsoever to be paid to her by half yearly equal portions or payments for and during the term of her natural life Also I give and bequeath unto my niece Bridget Miles one of the daughters of my late brother John Sewell deceased an annuity or yearly sum of fifty shillings free and clear from all deductions or abatements whatsoever to be paid to her by half yearly equal portions or payments for and during the term of her natural life the first half yearly payment of the several above bequeathed annuities to be paid at the expiration of six Kalendar months next after my decease also I give and bequeath unto my niece Mary Dacon the daughter of my said brother Ezekiel Sewell the sum of 60 pounds of lawful money to be paid to her or her assigns at the expiration of one year next after my decease And my will is that if my personal estate shall not be sufficient to satisfy and pay all the several these annuities and legacies hereinbefore given then and in such case such of Thomas cannot or shall not be paid. 6 June 1763 Thomas Sewell the sole Executor with them named was duly sworn Before me Chr Wilson Dr D This Will was Proved on the Sixth day of June in the year of our Lord 1763 before the Rev Christopher Wilson Dr in Divinity Surrogate pending the Episcopal . . . . . By the Oath of Thomas Sewell the Sole Executor to whom Administration of all and Singular of the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased was Granted and committed on the Tenth day of the same Month of June he being first Sworn duly to Administer Ref: Mary Terbrack - 2014
