William Peter JOHNSON
- Born: 2 Jan 1869, Wellington NZ
- Marriage (1): Mary Catherine HAY on 2 Jan 1907 in Sydney NSW Australia
- Partnership (2): Helen Mary DOWIE
- Died: 6 Oct 1949, Farenough Darlington Western Aust. aged 80
- Buried: 8 Oct 1949, Darlington Western Aust.
Cause of his death was myocardial degeneration & arteriosclerosis.
Another name for William was Bill.
William was a School Teacher, he was working in Chile in 1913 at the death of his father, he appears to have separated from Mary Hay by then, he then moved to Western Australia about 1939.
Apparently as his wife Mary was a Roman Catholic he was unable to divorce but took up a relationship with Helen Dowie
William left personal jewelry etc and some bonds to Helen Dowie in his will and divided the rest between his sister Elizabeth Jane (Lil) Johnson, William Alexander Munro, Barbara Jean Munro, his niece Alice Johnson, and his daughter Ruth, equally. The will was contested and I have a letter from Gran to my cousin say there wouldn't be much left by the time it was sorted, but I don't know what the final outcome was. When I was little, possibly after he died in 1949, 'Aunt Helen' came to visit us with Gran. We were living in Denniston on the West Coast at the time and she must have wondered what on earth she had come to.
