Capt Thomas Maitland EDWARDS

Thomas was a Captain in the 98th Regiment of Foot
Over the chancel door of St John Weston Super Mare, surmounting a slab of polished marble, is a sculptured crown, with regimental colours, and a bayonet with a sword on either side of an oval medallion, on which the number 98 is engraved in raised figures.
This monument is "To the Memory of Capt. Thomas Maitland Edwards, 98th Regiment, who died of fever at Hong Kong, China, on the 15th November, 1844, aged 30 years. This Tablet is erected by his Brother Officers as a mark of their deep and universal regret at his loss, and as a testimony of the respect and esteem in which he was held by them during a period of nearly 20 years that he served in the 98th Regiment.
