Bury Ref HD 1747/3/13 - Transcript of agreement (of 1656) re three messuages gardens orchards woods and land in Great and Little Waldingfield, Groton, Acton and Edwardstone of about 160 acres between Joseph Alston, William Clopton, and Henry Dawson of the Manor of Sandesfords for payment of rents on the above lands.

Defendant acknowledges that his grandfather William Alston left legacies to the children of his son William, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The said William, defendant's father, settled lands upon defendant, his eldest son, and in consideration of a marriage to be had between defendant and Elizabeth Brand [? daughter] of Benjamin Brand of Edwardstone, co. Suffolk, Esq., a settlement was made about 30 August 8. . . . . , of lands in Edwardstone, Boxford and Newton.
Defendant gave bonds in various sums at different times as security for his father, who also made over to him divers lands for certain sums of money, but never in trust, as alleged in the bill.
