bullet  General Notes:

Mary was cousin of John Evelyn the celebrated diarist and author of " Sylvia."

Her will was proved November 18, 1696 (P.C.C. 221 Bard).

In most pedigrees she is erroneously said to be the daughter of Anthony Balam of Long Ditton. Anthony
was in reality her cousin and younger than herself, as their epitaphs in Manning & Bray's "Surrey" shew.
By her husband Lady Mary left three daughters and cohers of whom the youngest Sophia was married to Sir
Stephen Glynne Bart. and became the ancestress of Mrs. Gladstone wife of the late Rt. Hon. W. E. Gladstone
P.C. M.P. and of the families of the Lords Lytellton Penrhyn and Welby etc.
