Mary BALAM [7288]
- Baptised: 1632, Sawston CAM
- Marriage (1): Sir Edward EVELYN Bart [7287] on 5 Sep 1659 in St Dionis Blackchurch London
- Buried: 10 Jul 1696, Long Ditton SRY
General Notes:
Mary was cousin of John Evelyn the celebrated diarist and author of " Sylvia."
Her will was proved November 18, 1696 (P.C.C. 221 Bard).
In most pedigrees she is erroneously said to be the daughter of Anthony Balam of Long Ditton. Anthony was in reality her cousin and younger than herself, as their epitaphs in Manning & Bray's "Surrey" shew. By her husband Lady Mary left three daughters and cohers of whom the youngest Sophia was married to Sir Stephen Glynne Bart. and became the ancestress of Mrs. Gladstone wife of the late Rt. Hon. W. E. Gladstone P.C. M.P. and of the families of the Lords Lytellton Penrhyn and Welby etc.
Mary married Sir Edward EVELYN Bart [7287] [MRIN: 2422], son of Sir Thomas EVELYN Knt. of Long Ditton SRY [15726] and Anne GOLD [15725], on 5 Sep 1659 in St Dionis Blackchurch London. (Sir Edward EVELYN Bart [7287] was born on 25 Jan 1624/25 in Long Ditton SRY, baptised on 31 Jan 1624/25, died on 3 May 1692 in Long Ditton SRY and was buried on 12 May 1692 in Long Ditton SRY.)
