Educated at St Peter's School York, articled to James Pigott Pritchard (1789 - 1868) his father 1845. Travelled in Europe, the near East, and North Africa.
FRIBA 30 November 1863; FRIBA 3 December 1906.
In partnership with his father 1853/4, then succeeded to practice of brother-in-law John Middleton who had died 1885 of Darlington and later Cheltenham,
