VALEDICTORY.
FAREWELL TO REV. PRITCHETT
AND FAMILY
On January 10 the parishioners of the. Mayfield and Anama parochial districts met in the Mayfield Band Hall to bid farewell to the Rev. and Mrs Pritchett and family, Mr Pritchett having resigned the ministry on account of ill-health. The hall was nicely decorated for the occasion with many beautiful flowers. Mr Beckett, the chairman, expressed the deep regret of those present for Mr Pritchett's ill-health and his having to resign the ministry. Mrs Richardson presented Mr Pritchett with an envelope containing a cheque for a substantial amount, as an expression of the esteem in which ho was.held by his parishioners. Mr Pritchett, in thanking the people lor their handsome gift, said he was very sorry to have to leave the district. He had tried to carry, out his duties, but during the last few years be had worked under a great disadvantage, his failing health being a great handicap to him. The district was a large one, and also a very scattered one, and it needed a man of great energy and good health. He and his family had spent a very happy time while they had resided in the district, and it had indeed been a pleasure to be amongst his people. He expressed a wish that be would be able to visit them occasionally. In conclusion, he asked them not to forget in the midst of these troublesome times their Church and their God, and to continually pray for those brave lads at the front. Musical items were contributed during the evening by the following: \emdash Pianoforte solos, Misses Duff and Ablett; songs, Misses Nicolson, Edis and Johnstone, and Messrs Wykes, Jeff Ablett, and Bennett; duet, Miss and Master Harrison. After supper, parlour games were indulged in, and the evening was brought to a successful close by the singing of "They are Jolly good fellows" and " Aul'd Lang Syne." Mr Pritchett preached his farewell sermon on Sunday evening, the 20th inst.

Percy in the 1930's appears often in the Christchurch Press accused of attacks on pacifism, holding forth on the "The Divine Message Of the Great Pyramid" lecturing the British Israel Society with "evidence" the British are the lost tribes of Israel, Philology and Ethnology etc. Subjects probably of little interest to his Mayfield parishioners!
