Thomas SEWELL
Thomas SEWELL
- Born: 1639, Sudbury SFK
- Christened: 1640, Gt Henny ESS
- Marriage (1): Alice BEAUMONT on 5 Jun 1672 in Layham SFK
- Died: 15 May 1707 aged 68
- Buried: 1707, St Mary Gt Henny
Thomas at his fathers death is under the age of 21, he inherits Guyblons' together with various other properties in Great Henny, Little Henny and Middleton.
Thomas was aged 61 at his death according to the gravestone (one of four) in the Nave of Saint Mary the Virgin's church in Great Henny. These gravestones include a coat of arms but there is no grant of arms recorded at the College of Heralds. The Latin inscription on this tomb translates as 'here lies the son, the father, the grandfather and the great grandfather'. So this means that John is buried there but not John indicating although he had property in Henny he did not necessarily live there.
Sewells owned land in nearby Halstead as early as 1395 (Duchy of Lancaster Court Rolls Bundle 123 No 1859) did the Sewells at Henny come from there as they also owned land in Halstead.
