[5th s. of Edward, land-surveyor, of 34, Pall Mall, London (and Susannah, dau. of - Crash, of Felsted, Essex). B. June 2, 1803.] School, Westminster. Did not reside. Cadet, Bengal Army, 1822; Ensign, 1823; Lieut., 1825; Captain, 1840; Major, 1855; retired as Hon. Lieut.-Col., 1857. Served in the First China War, 1842. Married, Jan. 9, 1832, at Bareilly, Miss Maria Suffolk, 'a converted Hindu, dau. of the late Vizier of Bussahir, and ward of the Rana of Kumasin.' Died June 25, 1862, at Barnsbury Park, Islington. Howard was named after John Howard the prison reformer. He joined the East India Co as a soldier remaining for 30 years. Returning to England he devoted himself to the cause of temperence reform.

(Maria Isobel SUFFOLK [1662] was born about 1807 in Bussabor Kumasin India, died on 8 Aug 1852 in Lahore Bengal India and was buried on 9 Aug 1852 in Lahore Bengal India.)
